Women's Leadership Council
Women Making a Difference!
The Women's Leadership Council goal is to help women and girls acquire the life-long skills needed to support themselves and their families.
As a program of United Way of Thurston County, we aim to inspire, educate and engage our members in philanthropy, community service, advocacy and mentoring to help meet this goal.
How does the WLC benefit the community?
Improving the financial stability of women and girls in Thurston County benefits both those individuals and our community. Women who understand how to support themselves and feel empowered to do so are able to give back to the community rather than relying on its services to survive.
Our Mission
We positively impact the lives of women in our community by promoting self sufficiency and financial stability through philanthropy and community service.
How we are achieving our goal?
In 2010-11 the WLC is providing $17,000 in grants to organizations that promote economic empowerment and financial self-sufficiency for women.

Becoming a member
Membership requires an annual minimum gift of $1,000 to United Way of Thurston County . The membership gift is $500 for women under 35 years and $100 for full time students. If the entire membership dues are more than your monthly budget allows, membership payments can be made monthly over the course of the year.
Your $1,000 contribution goes directly to our cause. $750 is directed into the WLC Giving Circle fund. Your contribution is pooled with other donations from corporate and individual giving. WLC members determine how that money is used to support community programs focused on women and girls. The remaining $250 goes to United Way of Thurston County’s Community Care Fund.
