- United Way of Thurston County Awards $450,000 in Grants

With a focus on bringing lasting change, United Way of Thurston County will provide $450,000 in grants for each of two years to support 44 health and human service programs at 29 local nonprofit organizations. Each funded program aligned with one of  United Way’s three focus areas: Education, Income and Health. The grants were made possible from individual and corporate donations made during United Way’s 2009-10 campaign. For a complete list of funded programs, click here

Applications are scored based on their alignment with United Way’s focus areas, as well as strength of program design and the program’s impact on our community.

Panels collectively rank programs in their impact area from highest to lowest and make a funding recommendation for each program. For this coming year the top two-thirds of applications were funded.

In 2010 United Way received almost $1.1 million in grant requests, and funding panels, made up of community volunteers, recommended an allocation of $450,000 for grants.

UWTC will also allocate additional grants for early learning programs and emerging needs, and distribute more than $300,000 in donor designated gifts to nonprofit organizations. United Way’s Women’s Leadership Council will award $20,000 in grants to programs that promote financial stability for women.
