Afterschool Activities Instead of Boring Bus Rides: Homeless Youth in North Thurston County Have Somewhere to Belong

This fall, United Way leverage our resources to assist the Boys and Girls Club of Thurston County to open their Lacey club doors to 33 homeless students. Instead of spending hours on the bus to uncertain housing situations, these kids will now gain help with homework, a nutritious afterschool snack and play fills the time that was previously spent stuck on a school bus.
Despite the fact that the Lacey Boys and Girls Club had no additional open spots, the organizational leadership felt it was critical that this group of kids be accommodated as the alternative had been spending up to two hours riding the bus afterschool.
With emergency funds from United Way, 33 students experiencing homelessness now have a place to go after school.
