#NationalVolunteerWeek Spotlight - AmeriCorps

Excited to thank AmeriCorps members & AmeriCorps Seniors volunteers on #NationalServiceRecognitionDay for stepping up & showing up when our communities need it most. #AmeriCorpsWorks for Thurston County!
Here is the proclamation from the Olympia City Council meeting. What a great testimony on the impact of AmeriCorps! Since 2015, over 60 people have served full-time for a year with Greater South Sound VISTA, raising over $4 million dollars in cash donations and in-kind resources for local organizations.
We currently have full-time members serving at Thurston County Public Health & Social Services, South Sound YMCA, South Sound Reading Foundation, Quixote Communities and United Way of Thurston County. And our Greater South Sound VISTA members are not alone in this. Nationwide, over 270,000 people are serving right now. National service has been - and will continue to be - central to how local organizations meet our nation’s challenges, from poverty to the pandemic. The American Rescue Plan recently allotted $1B to AmeriCorps to continue this crucial work as our country builds back better.
To all the AmeriCorps members serving with Olympia-based organizations, please know that you deserve this recognition of your enduring dedication and your deep commitment. Thank you for your service.
