Small Business Spotlight: Andrea Ballard, Expecting Change

Small businesses play a critical role in maintaining a thriving local economy. Our Small Business Partners are an important, growing family of donors, who are vital to helping us meet the needs of our community. Every month, we will feature a small business partner in this SPOTLIGHT section of the newsletter. Introducing Expecting Change and owner, Andrea Ballard.

United Way: Tell us about your business; and what is your business philosophy?

Andrea: My business, Expecting Change LLC, works with small to mid-sized professional companies to help them attract and retain top talent in a competitive marketplace. I bring a practical perspective to the business of Human Resources. I work with individuals, groups, and organizations to tap into their unique strengths, values, passion, and purpose to create stronger, more fulfilling, and productive careers & work teams. Most of my clients started their business because they were passionate about their area of expertise; my services allow them to focus on that area of expertise while I handle the people issues that keep them awake at night.

United Way: Why are you passionate about your commitment to United Way of Thurston County?

Andrea: Everyone in our society needs help at one time or another. Many people are afraid to ask for or admit to needing help. United Way helps people who might otherwise fall through the cracks.

United Way: What is something interesting or surprising that most people don't know about you?

Andrea: I am a member of the Olympia Pie Bakers Guild, and I co-host a weekly baking podcast called Preheated.

United Way: What would your older self say to your younger self?

Andrea: Don't waste time trying to figure out the 'one thing' you'll do for the rest of your life; you'll always be learning, growing, and changing.

United Way: What's your favorite quote?

Andrea: "Nothing is more exhausting than the task that is never started." - Gretchen Rubin more at Expecting Change.
