Diversity: A Statement of Principle

At United Way of Thurston County we value diversity, as well as the dignity and worth of each employee and volunteer, and believe that an inclusive and diverse group of volunteers and the workforce is critical to our continued success.

  • United Way of Thurston County's goal is to be a model for championing diversity, welcoming and serving everyone.
  • Diversity is valuing individuals without regard to race, religion, color, gender, nationality, sexual orientation, disability, and age.
  • We need diversity because our work has taught us its value. Every day we experience changing needs in our community.
  • Our ability to embrace diversity and to make it an integral part of our business will enable us to serve our contributors, volunteers and partner agencies more effectively. It will also help us to attract new volunteers, new employees and new givers.
  • Our goal is to have our Board of Directors, management, staff, agencies, and volunteers genuinely demonstrate the principles of diversity, which enrich our community.
  • Our vision is to be an inclusive culture, promoting respect for individuals and diverse ideas through engagement and collaboration.

Statement on Equity

At United Way of Thurston County we value diversity, as well as the dignity and worth of every person. These values are an integral part of our organization and are reflected in the work we do every day. United Way of Thurston County mobilizes the caring power of our community to fight for the health, education and financial stability of every person in every community.

Now, more than ever, we must stand together to champion equity and reinforce our commitment to addressing our community’s toughest challenges. We will continue to empower our partner agencies to support and care for every person, without regard to race, religion, color, gender, nationality, sexual orientation, disability or age. And we will listen with empathy to learn how we can WORK UNITED to make our communities the places that we need them to be – equitable, respectful and opportunity-filled.


DISCLOSURE STATEMENT

Decisions at United Way of Thurston County are made by individuals of the highest character who are concerned about the well-being of their community and those who live there. Policy-making volunteers include Thurston County's top business, labor, civic, and cultural leaders. Many of these individuals have leadership roles in other organizations. If a vote on an issue at United Way affects one or more of those other organizations and a volunteer feels that his or her vote is or may be construed to be a conflict of interest with other responsibilities, he or she may abstain from voting on that issue.
