Welcome to our new Board Member

Luke

We want to welcome our newest board member, Luke Minor! Luke is the WA529 Director at the Washington Student Achievement Council. We asked him a few questions to get to know him better.

What is something interesting or surprising that most people don’t know about you?

I can ride a unicycle!

Tell us a little about what you do at WA529.

As the WA529 program director, I have the privilege of leading a team of 22 amazing individuals who are committed to helping Washington families save for future higher education expenses. I love my role in the organization as it is a dynamic one that brings new challenges every day. I coach and mentor team members, analyze data and budgets, serve as the program’s spokesperson, manage a board, build relationships with state, regional, and community partners, and advocate for program participants. Additionally, I am grateful to work for a state agency, the Washington Student Achievement Council (WSAC), that is focused on reducing barriers for individuals in pursuing postsecondary education and training. In addition to offering college savings plans through our division, WSAC administers the state’s financial aid programs, conducts critical research that informs our progress toward meeting the state’s educational attainment goals, and advocates for policies that benefit Washington students.

How do you like to spend your time when you are not working?

When I’m not focused on helping other families save for future higher education expenses, I think a lot about saving and planning for my own daughter’s future education goals. Beyond that, I enjoy getting outside to play in the forest, mountains, water, or even just the neighborhood. My wife, daughter, and I look for any opportunity to get out and walk, hike, ride bikes and even slow down to enjoy the finer things in life, like splashing in a puddle or two. We also have a 'young at heart' senior dog that likes to tag along whenever she decides to get up off the couch!
